Plot Synopsis

Founded by the hip-hop musician and actor Ice Cube and entertainment executive Jeff Kwatinetz, BIG3 BASKETBALL is a 3-on-3 basketball league, featuring professional basketball's first four-point shot.

For its inaugural season in Summer 2017, eight teams began play on Sunday, June 25 at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, NY. Teams traveled to 10 different cities throughout the season, playing all games back-to-back each Sunday in the same venue. FOX Sports 1 presented games the following night in primetime. Nine weeks later on Saturday, August 26, Trilogy defeated the 3 Headed Monsters 51-46 to win the first league championship in a game broadcast on FOX at 4:30pm ET/1:30pm PT.

The 2020 season was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Beginning with 2025, teams were no longer barnstorming teams, and they instead represented one of eight different cities: Boston Ball Hogs (coach Gary Payton), Chicago Triplets (Julius Erving), Dallas Power (Nancy Lieberman), Detroit Amps (George Gervin), DMV Trilogy (Stephen Jackson) Houston Rig Hands (Calvin Murphy), LA Riot (Nick Young), and Miami 305 (Michael Cooper). VICE Sports' Season 8 coverage begins by televising two games on June 14, 2025, live at 6pm ET/3pm PT, following the live CBS broadcast of the league's season opener at Allstate Arena in Chicago, IL, and continue through the summer. VICE Sports will televise 14 live BIG3 games on eight dates between the June 14 premiere and the end of the regular season on August 9.
