Plot Synopsis

Roommates Leonard and Sheldon are brilliant physicists -- the kind of geeks that understand how the universe works -- but none of that genius helps them interact with people, especially women. All this begins to change when a free-spirited beauty named Penny, a waitress at The Cheesecake Factory, moves in next door and teaches them a thing or two about life. Sheldon spends his nights video-chatting with Amy Farrah Fowler and playing Klingon Boggle with their socially dysfunctional friends, fellow CalTech scientists Wolowitz and Koothrappali. Leonard saw a whole new universe of possibilities in Penny, including an on-again, off-again girlfriend. Wolowitz' new wife, the adorable micro-biologist Bernadette, rounds out this group of geeky friends. Season 6 opened with Wolowitz in space, where he's caught in an argument between Bernadette and his mother, and closed with Leonard being offered an excited job opportunity overseas, which threw he and Penny for a loop. Season 7 of THE BIG BANG THEORY debuted on CBS on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at 8pm ET/PT, with back-to-back new episodes. In the season opener, Sheldon and Penny spent quality time together, sharing intimate secrets, while Leonard was away on his job in the North Sea. In the night's second episode, Leonard's friendship with Sheldon was put to the test when he returned from the North Sea. On Wednesday, March 12, 2014, CBS announced that it picked up THE BIG BANG THEORY for three more seasons, extending it through the 2016-2017 season.

Season 8 premiered on Monday, September 22, 2014 at 8pm ET/PT on CBS with back-to-back new episodes, as THE BIG BANG THEORY aired on Mondays through October 20, moving to Thursdays at 8pm ET/PT starting on October 30. In the season opener, "The Locomotion Interruption," Leonard and Amy take an unexpected road trip to Arizona to pick up Sheldon. Meanwhile, Penny interviews for a job at Bernadette's company, and Howard is weirded out by Stuart's relationship with Mrs. Wolowitz. Then, in the second episode on premiere night, "The Junior Professor Solution," Howard surprises everyone by taking a class that Sheldon is forced to teach. Meanwhile, the tension between Penny and Bernadette gives Amy a chance to play both sides.

THE BIG BANG THEORY returned for its ninth season on Monday, September 21, 2015 at 8pm ET/PT on CBS, airing on Mondays at 8pm ET/PT through the end of October and moving to Thursdays at 8pm ET/PT on November 5, 2015. In the season opener, "The Matrimonial Momentum," after driving to Vegas to get married, Penny struggles with Leonard's confession that he kissed another girl. Also, Sheldon doesn't know how to act after Amy pushes pause on their relationship.

Season 10 of THE BIG BANG THEORY premiered on Monday, September 19, 2016 at 8pm ET/PT on CBS. In the season opener, "The Conjugal Conjecture," after Sheldon's mother and Leonard's father share an evening together, everyone deals with an awkward morning the next day. Also, Penny's family arrives for the wedding ceremony, including her anxiety-ridden mother, Susan (guest star Katey Sagal), and her drug dealing brother, Randall (guest star Jack McBrayer). Also, Dean Norris guest stars as Colonel Williams, an Air Force Representative from the Department of Materiel Command. Christine Baranski, Laurie Metcalf, Judd Hirsch and Keith Carradine return in their recurring roles.

Season 11 of THE BIG BANG THEORY premiered on Monday, September 25, 2017 at 8pm ET/PT on CBS, with returning guest stars: Laurie Metcalf as Sheldon's mother, Mary; Riki Lindhome as Ramona; and Stephen Hawking as himself. In the season opener, "The Proposal Proposal," Amy gives Sheldon an answer to his proposal while Howard and Bernadette struggle with some unexpected news.

The twelfth and final season of THE BIG BANG THEORY premiered on a special night: Monday, September 24, 2018 at 8pm ET/PT on CBS. In the season opener, "The Conjugal Configuration," Sheldon and Amy's honeymoon runs aground in New York, while Penny and Leonard discover they are uncomfortably similar to Amy's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fowler (guest stars Teller and Kathy Bates). Also, Koothrappali insults physicist (and guest star) Neil deGrasse Tyson and starts a Twitter war. Bill Nye also guest stars as himself. THE BIG BANG THEORY then moves to its regular timeslot -- Thursdays at 8pm -- three days later on September 27. In that new episode, "The Wedding Gift Wormhole," Sheldon and Amy drive themselves crazy trying to figure out what "perfect gift" Leonard and Penny gave them for their wedding. Also, Koothrappali decides he wants to settle down and asks his father to arrange a marriage for him.
On Thursday, May 16, 2019 from 8-9pm, CBS premiered back-to-back episodes for the series finale of THE BIG BANG THEORY, followed by a half-hour farewell special at 9:30pm:
