Plot Synopsis

THE BILLBOARD MUSIC AWARDS honor the best in music, originally based on the year-end charts of the music trade publication "Billboard" magazine. Now, finalists are based on key fan interactions with music, including album, single and digital sales, airplay, touring, streaming and social interactions on MySpace, Facebook and many of the other most popular online destinations for music. This event was first telecast in 1990 on FOX and held annually in December through 2006. After more than a four-year layoff, THE BILLBOARD MUSIC AWARDS returned in 2011 to air annually in May on ABC ever since.
Hosted by Sean "Diddy" Combs, the 2022 BILLBOARD MUSIC AWARDS aired live from MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV on Sunday, May 15, 2022 from 8-11pm ET/5-8pm PT on NBC, with performances by Burna Boy ("Last Last" and "Kilometre"), Latto ("Big Energy"), Megan Thee Stallion ("Plan B" and "Sweetest Pie"), Florence + The Machine ("My Love"), Red Hot Chili Peppers, AleXa, Becky G ("Baile Con Mi Ex" and "MAMIII"), Dan and Shay ("You"), Machine Gun Kelly ("twin flame"), Mary J. Blige, Ed Sheeran (performing "2step" from Belfast), Rauw Alejandro ("Curame," "MUSEO" and "Todo De Ti"), Silk Sonic ("Love's Train"), Morgan Wallen ("Wasted on You" and "Don't Think Jesus"), Miranda Lambert & Elle King ("Drunk (And I Don't Wanna Go Home" duet), Travis Scott("Mafia"), and Maxwell ("Lady In My Life").

Mary J. Blige will be honored with the Billboard Icon Award. Mari Copeny, a 14-year-old environmental justice advocate, receives the third annual Billboard Music Award Changemaker Award.
