Plot Synopsis

THE BILLBOARD MUSIC AWARDS honor the best in music, originally based on the year-end charts of the music trade publication "Billboard" magazine. Now, finalists are based on key fan interactions with music, including album, single and digital sales, airplay, touring, streaming and social interactions on MySpace, Facebook and many of the other most popular online destinations for music. This event was first telecast in 1990 on FOX and held annually in December through 2006. After more than a four-year layoff, THE BILLBOARD MUSIC AWARDS returned in 2011 to air annually in May on ABC through 2017 and then on NBC in 2018 and 2019. The event moved to October for 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic and returned to May on NBC for 2021 and 2022. The 2023 ceremony was streamed live online in October, and was re-imagined as a digital event with no host. The 2024 BILLBOARD MUSIC AWARDS, held in December, returned to linear television on FOX and was streamed on Paramount+.
