Plot Synopsis

Based on the life of famous American outlaw Billy the Kid (aka William H. Bonney), BILLY THE KID is a one-hour western adventure series that explores his life -- from his humble Irish roots, to his early days as a cowboy and gunslinger in the American frontier, to his pivotal role in the Lincoln County War and beyond. The story opens in 1871, as 12-year-old Billy McCarty and his immigrant Irish family have to leave New York and travel west to seek new opportunities...but the journey proves fatal for some. Kathleen and her sons Billy and Joe travel on to Santa Fe, where life is hard...but she meets and marries a man who might change everything for the better -- only to find that he makes it a lot worse. Antrim, Kathleen and the two boys relocate to Silver City, trying to start a new life, but all their dreams are shattered -- and Billy loses everything.

Season 2 of BILLY THE KID debuted on Sunday, October 15, 2023 at 9pm ET/PT on MGM+. In the new season, Billy and his allies square off against his oldest friend, Jesse Evans, and the corrupt powers of the Santa Fe Ring. When shots are fired, the conflict erupts into the bloody Lincoln County War. Amidst the fighting, Billy will struggle to hang onto his soul -- and to the love of his life. In the season opener, "The Road to Hell," the Lincoln County War is on the verge of kicking off in a big way; Billy has joined Englishman John Tunstall in his commercial battle with Major Murphy and the House, but even bigger players lurk in the background and the stakes are high.

On Sunday, November 5, 2023 at 9pm ET/PT, MGM+ released "The Day of the Dead," the mid-season finale of BILLY THE KID. The Regulators have been on the defensive since the start of war, but Billy draws up a plan which could bring the war to an end. BILLY THE KID will return with new episodes in 2024.
