Plot Synopsis

From filmmakers Codie Elaine Oliver and Tommy Oliver, BLACK LOVE is a one-hour series that highlights honest and emotional real love stories from the Black community. As newlyweds, Codie and Tommy interview married couples to explore what makes a marriage work. Celebrity couples include Oscar-winner Viola Davis and husband Julius Tennon, NAACP Image Award-winner Tia Mowry and husband/actor Cory Hardrict, Hollywood power couple Meagan Good and DeVon Franklin, NAACP Image Award-nominee Flex Alexander and wife/Grammy nominated recording artist Shanice, actress Vanessa Bell-Calloway and husband Anthony Calloway, gospel singer Erica Campbell and husband/producer Warryn Campbell, and producer/comedian Chris Spencer and wife Vanessa. The various couples describe the often-imperfect moment they entered each other's lives. They describe in unique and surprising detail how their spouse went from being a stranger to their most beloved life partner and confidant. Seeking the answer to the burning question, "What is the secret to making a marriage work?," the series dives into how love begins while showing the reality of what life-long love looks like, and offers proof that while it can happen for everyone, it isn't a cakewalk. After premiering on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at 10pm ET/PT on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network, BLACK LOVE moved to its regular timeslot -- Saturdays at 9pm -- just four days later on September 2.

The sophomore season of BLACK LOVE premieres Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 10pm ET/PT. The second season features Emmy award-winning actor Sterling K. Brown and wife Ryan Michelle Bathe, Emmy Award-winning actress Niecy Nash and husband Jay Tucker, Tina Knowles-Lawson and husband Richard Lawson, NBA All-Star Grant Hill and Grammy-nominated recording artist Tamia, RUN DMC's Rev Run and wife Justine Simmons, Grammy Award-winning gospel recording artist ?Kirk Franklin and wife Tammy, comedian D.L. Hughley and wife LaDonna, former NFL running back Eddie George and wife Taj of R&B group SWV, hip-hop artist Styles P and wife Adjua, actors Alano Miller and Dewanda Wise, NFL linebacker Bart Scott and wife Starr, and more. The couples talk about how their relationships began, the road to the altar, life after children and all of the other obstacles they may have faced to make their marriages stronger than ever. After a four-month break, BLACK LOVE returned with new episodes on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 10pm ET/PT on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network. The series moves to its regular timeslot -- Saturdays at 10pm -- four days later on October 6. The mid-season premiere, "Second Time Around," couples share the unexpected, hard-earned and sometimes decades-long journey back to the altar. Featured couples include Niecy Nash and Jay Tucker, and Tina Knowles Lawson and Richard Lawson.

Season 3 of BLACK LOVE premiered on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at 9pm ET/PT on ONW: Oprah Winfrey Network. The third season focuses on several couples which include Terry & Rebecca Crews, LeToya Luckett & Tommicus Walker, David & Tamela Mann, Kandi Burruss & Todd Tucker, Egypt Sherrod & Mike Jackson as well as numerous everyday couples from all walks of life. BLACK LOVE continues to pull back the curtain on how a relationship blossoms and the reality of marriage day in and day out, offering proof that it can happen for everyone, but it isn't without ups and downs. In the season opener, "In the Beginning," couples share the stories that marked the beginnings of their lifelong loves -- whether it's a forbidden workplace romance or a long-distance relationship conducted on the phone. After a 2.5-month break, BLACK LOVE returned with new episodes on Friday, November 8, 2019 at 8pm ET/PT on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network. New episodes feature celebrity couples including Terry and Rebecca Crews, Letoya Luckett and Tommicus Walker, David and Tamela Mann, Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker, Egypt Sherrod and Mike Jackson as well as everyday couples from all walks of life. In the fall premiere, "Married While Parenting," couples discuss how children change marriage. From traditional to blended families, they share stories about the challenges of making each other a priority while raising a family. Featuring Egypt Sherrod and Mike Jackson, David and Julie Arnold and more.

BLACK LOVE returned for its fourth season on Saturday, September 5, 2020 from 9-11pm ET/PT, as OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network debuted back-to-back new episodes to kick off the new season. In Season 4, featured couples such as Dule Hill & Jazmyn Simon, Jemele Hill & Ian Wallace, Bill & Kristen Bellamy, and Deborah Joy Winans & Terrence Williams will discuss topics from the early days of marriage to navigating grief, mental health, and the changes in intimacy over time.

The fifth season of BLACK LOVE premiered on Friday, May 14, 2021 at 10pm ET/PT on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network. The new season will feature Chance and Tabitha Brown, R&B singer Kenny Lattimore and Judge Faith Jenkins, Grammy winner Ledisi and husband Ron Young, Singer/Songwriter Tank and Zena Foster, GREENLEAF actor Keith David and his wife Dionne, Stylist Jason Bolden and interior designer Adair Curtis, plus others who will discuss topics from early days of marriage to navigating finances, religious differences, parenting, and the unexpected twists that are part of every couples' journey.

On Saturday, July 23, 2022 at 10pm ET/PT, OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network premiered the sixth and final season of BLACK LOVE. Season 6 features: Adrienne "Gammy" Banfield Norris & Rodney Norris; Remy Ma & Papoose; Mike Hill & Cynthia Bailey; DJ Envy & Gia Casey; Melanie Fiona & Jared Cotter; Eric Bellinger & La'Myia Good; JB Smoove & Shahidah Omar; Sonequa Martin-Green & Kenric Green; Ashley Blaine Featherson Jenkins & Darroll Jenkins; Kel & Asia Mitchell; Alimi & Dahn Ballard; Jeannette "JR" Reyes & Robert Burton; Ray & Rosalyn Singleton; Kier & Noemie Gaines; MyLin & Lindsay Stokes Kennedy; Peter & Amber Saji; Virgil & Mary Toombs; and Codie & Tommy Oliver (Creators). In the season opener, "There Isn't One Way (Part 1)," a diverse set of couples highlight their beginnings and the hurdles they faced on the path to their "I do," including meeting and marrying in under a year, breakups and make-ups, dating a coworker and a pre-prison proposal.

On Saturday, August 27, 2022 at 10pm ET/PT, OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network premiered "Relationship Goals," the series finale of BLACK LOVE. Couples share the reality behind the term "relationship goals" and reveal that the true goal is knowing that tough times will come and go, no matter who you are and what your relationship looks like from the outside.
