Plot Synopsis

THE BOBBY BROWN STORY is a two-part special that picks up where THE NEW EDITION STORY left off. This two-parter chronicles the artist hailed as the "King of R&B," including his exit from the popular '80s boy band through his solo success, and tabloid-fodder marriage to pop icon Whitney Houston. Spanning 30 years of Brown's life, this program follows his story from the hard streets of Roxbury before being given the chance to prove himself as a solo artist. BET premieres THE BOBBY BROWN STORY at 9pm ET/PT on Tuesday, September 4 and Wednesday, September 5, 2018, with a simulcast on BET Her.

Night One (Tuesday, September, 4 from 9-11:30pm ET/PT): After being booted from New Edition, Bobby returns to Boston and turns to the streets to earn a living. Unhappy with the destructive decisions of her son, Bobby's mother, Carole seeks the help of record executive Louil Silas Jr., to give Bobby a second chance at a music career -- which ultimately saves his life. Upon recording and releasing the groundbreaking multi-platinum album, "Don't Be Cruel," Bobby is catapulted into solo fame and sees more success than the group he started and was ousted from. He's sitting at the top of the charts, but nearly plummets to a blistering low due a heavy drug habit. This habit not only threatens to derail his career, but almost costs him his life.

Night Two (Wednesday, September 5 from 9-11:30pm ET/PT): Bobby and Whitney's marriage falls apart after he kicks hard drugs in jail and she continues using, but his attempt to rebuild his life is put to the ultimate test by a series of family tragedies.
