Plot Synopsis

THE BOOK OF JOHN GRAY is a one-hour reality series that follows John Gray, Associate Pastor at Joel Osteen's world-famous Lakewood Church in Houston, giving viewers a peek into his life with his wife Aventer and their ministry, as they help people in their community overcome life's challenges while John also faces his own struggles and triumphs. The series reveals details of life within the Gray household, including John's emotional struggle with diabetes and Aventer's medical challenges. Among the people that John works with and guides are a woman whose home was destroyed after a flood, causing her to lose her faith; a father concerned about his daughter's dangerous addiction to alcohol; a couple trying to overcome infidelity on their path to the altar; and a military veteran who is trying to work through the trauma of sexual abuse suffered while serving her country, which brings up demons from John's own painful past. Aventer also brings her motherly touch of ministry to the series as well, helping a woman find comfort in her difficulties with fertility and mentoring a group of African-American teens.

On Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at 10pm ET/PT, OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network premiered the second season of THE BOOK OF JOHN GRAY. Pastor John Gray is back, preaching at one of the largest churches in America by night, while ministering one-on-one to those in great need of his inspiring words by day. Whether he and his devoted wife Aventer are starting a foundation to help those Houstonians affected by the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, or assisting members of the community as they struggle to overcome grief, personal trauma, infidelity, illness, loss of faith or other all too common personal challenges, John shares God's teachings like no one else -- with a gentle grace and an outgoing sense of humor. No matter where life takes John geographically, some things remain absolute: his love for his family, his heart for the people, and his extraordinary ability to lead them out of the darkness and into the light while somehow making them laugh along the way. In the season opener, "Into the Storm," in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, John and Aventer create a non-profit to help the victims, including a Lakewood pastor who lost everything in the flood. Singer Michelle Williams also joins in to help with the efforts. Meanwhile, John helps reality TV star Tami Roman come to terms with the public image she has created. THE BOOK OF GRAY then moves to its regular timeslot -- Saturdays at 10pm -- beginning March 17 with an encore presentation of the season opener and continuing on March 24 with the season's second new episode.

After an 11-month break, THE BOOK OF JOHN GRAY returned for its third season on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at 9pm ET/PT on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network. In the season opener, "The Chapter on Dealing With Hate," John helps a 14-year-old girl experiencing racism for the first time at school and meets a woman who runs a popular style blog, but secretly hides her personal insecurities. John and Aventer seek advice on how to build their team for Greenville.

On Saturday, May 25, 2019 at 10pm ET/PT, OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network premiered the season finale of THE BOOK OF JOHN GRAY. In the season ender, "Five Minutes of Fire," as the community sends the Grays off to Greenville in style, John helps an ex-con who believes he's called to ministry but is struggling to leave his past behind, while a newly-married interracial couple reaches out to John as they battle racism.
