Plot Synopsis
B.O.R.N. TO STYLE is a one-hour, lifestyle makeover series centered on a team from the Harlem-based eclectic boutique, B.O.R.N. (borrowed, old, refurbished and new), as they offer up their own brand of therapy and inspiration to clients and transform them into their best possible selves. Under the supervision of Jonathan Bodrick, these style superheroes land at the door of those desperately in need of some color in their lives. By rifling through their client's belongings and asking blunt questions, the team at B.O.R.N. gets to the root of their fashion malaise, before whisking them away for a transformation that goes beyond just their look. In each 60-minute episode, the team helps two clients, including: Alison, a New York Metropolitan Opera dancer and lead singer of a band; Maxine Ashley, an up-and-coming R&B star; and many more people who need a makeover. B.O.R.N. storeowner and fashion maven Jonathan Bodrick has been styling people since the age of five, fondly remembering large closets filled with elaborate hats and impeccably tailored suits, as his father, grandfather and uncles were all sharp dressers. His team includes: Brandon Hood, who became a part of the legendary House of Milan and moved to New York City in 2011 after studing cosmetology at Atlanta Area Tech; Terry Artis, the store manager, who took a 13-hour bus ride to New York City from Stantonsburg, NC in 2000 and never looked back; Devin Stokes, the youngest member of B.O.R.N., who was born in Queens and graduated from Francis Lewis High School; JJ Langan, who began his career as a wardrobe stylist for independent and student films, and the experience motivated him to become a full-time film student at Brooklyn College, while simultaneously working to build the B.O.R.N. brand; and Kristen Brown, a makeup artist from San Angelo, TX, who has launched her first business, Gold Label Cosmetics, a cosmetics brand.
