Plot Synopsis

BREAKING THE BAND is a one-hour documentary series that reveals the battling egos, power struggles and inter-band rivalries that split up The Beatles, The Supremes, Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, The Beach Boys, N.W.A, Van Halen, and Sonny & Cher. From crippling drug addictions to scandalous affairs this series uncovers the incredible true stories by re-creating the key moments the cameras missed in addition to using rare band interviews and off-stage footage to piece together each dramatic tale. Sell-out tours, chart-topping hits and runaway world domination can all mean nothing when a band is on the brink of collapse, with tempers flaring, arguments erupting and the sweet sound of musical success coming to an abrupt end. The series opener charts the rise and fall of The Beatles, as seen through the prism of the turbulent relationship between its two key members: John Lennon and Paul McCartney. From meeting as teenagers in the UK city of Liverpool, the episode reveals how the early trauma of losing their mothers brought them together but how their different personalities and musical aspirations would ultimately tear them apart. Using first hand testimony from colleagues and close friends, the program examines the key factors that led to the breakup. From the introduction of Yoko Ono to the death of their beloved manager, Brian Epstein, this show reveals the psychological factors that ended the most successful song writing partnership in history.
Tonight (Sunday, July 29, 2018) at 10pm ET/7pm PT, ReelzChannel premieres "The Supremes," a new episode of BREAKING THE BAND. Over the course of the '60s, The Supremes had 12 Billboard chart topping hits, including five consecutive #1 hits. They were an international sensation -- three teenage girls from the rough streets of Detroit who conquered the world. Members Mary Wilson, Florence Ballard, and Diana Ross were molded into stars by the boss of Motown himself, Berry Gordy. When they first got together The Supremes were inseparable but as their fame grew something happened to shatter the bonds between these friends. Diana Ross rose to become a superstar but for another group member it would end in a tragedy of drinking, despair and death. Told through the first-hand testimony of those that were there including original band member Mary Wilson, this is the story of how The Supremes broke up.
