Plot Synopsis

BREAKING THE FAITH is a one-hour reality series that shares the story of a group of young men and women who are trying to build a new life after leaving the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (FLDS). The young men, known as lost boys, are cast-outs from their homes and not welcomed back, while the women are escaping the controlling ways of the community, including arranged marriages and a life of complete submission. Leaving a world where every decision was made for them, they are now dealing with the challenges of living in a reality where they are now responsible for every move they make -- and the consquences of leaving the compound. The group includes: Martha, an 18-year-old with two mothers and 24 siblings, who hopes to attend college for criminal justice after searching for answers for some of FLDS' biggest mysteries; Angie, a 21-year-old self-proclaimed tomboy with two mothers and 19 siblings, who hopes to spend time with little kids out in the Gentile world; Linda, the 22-year-old stepdaughter of former FLDS leader Wendell Nielsen, who made the difficult decision to leave behind 32 mothers and 306 siblings; Connie, a 19-year-old with two mothers and 18 siblings, who was raised in a prestigious FLDS family and hopes that she can make a career doing something she loves, like sewing and working with kids; Valarie, a 21-year-old with one mother and 11 siblings, who eagerly awaits making her own money and her own choices in the Gentile world with brother Jake; Jake, the 19-year-old brother of Valarie, whose love of fast and loud cars has given him a taste of the fun he missed out on; Zack, an 18-year-old favorite son of Lyle Jeff, who left behind nine mothers and 62 siblings to escape his father's constant pressure on him; Matt, a 20-year-old son of Lyle Jeff, who also left behind nine mothers and 62 siblings to join the military, believing it will give him an outlet to use his trainings; and Ben, a 20-year-old with two mothers and 26 siblings, who was kicked out of the FLDS for fooling around with a girl -- and has never looked back.
