Plot Synopsis

Awarded each year by The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Los Angeles, THE BRITANNIA AWARDS honor individuals and companies that have dedicated their careers to advancing the entertainment arts. The awards are presented annually at a gala dinner, where peers and colleagues celebrate the work and accomplishments of its distinguished honorees. Since the first dinner in 1989, BAFTA has conferred a Brittania Award for Excellence in Film, which was renamed in 1999 as the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film. James Bond Producer Albert R. 'Cubby' Broccoli was the first person honored for Excellence in Film, and other previous winner include: Meryl Streep (2015), Robert Downey Jr. (2014), George Clooney (2013), Daniel Day-Lewis (2012), Warren Beatty (2011), Jeff Bridges (2010), Robert Deniro (2009), Sean Penn (2008), Denzel Washington (2007), Clint Eastwood (2006), Tom Cruise (2005), Tom Hanks (2004), Hugh Grant (2003), George Lucas (2002), Steven Spielberg (2000), the late Stanley Kubrick (1999), John Travolta (1998), Dustin Hoffman (1997), Bob and Harvey Weinstein (1996), Sir Anthony Hopkins (1995), Martin Scorsese (1993), Peter Ustinov (1992), and Michael Caine (1990). Until 1999 BAFTA only conferred one award at each event, when it added honors for television and commercials, with categories changing every few years since 1999. THE BRITANNIA AWARDS have been held at the Westin South Coast Plaza Hotel (1990), Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel (1992; 1995 - 1998), Century Plaza Hotel (2000; 2003; 2006 - 2010), and Beverly Hilton Hotel (1993; 1999; 2002; 2004 & 2005; 2011 - Present). First televised in the United States on TV Guide Network in 2010, where it aired for two consecutive years, the event was broadcast by BBC America for the first time in 2012, where it debuted through 2014 before moving to Pop TV in 2015.
The 2016 BRITANNIA AWARDS, hosted for the first time by Ben 'Doc Brown' Smith, was held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Friday, October 28, 2016. At the dinner, Jodie Foster was honored with the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film. Plus, BAFTA Los Angeles honored director Ang Lee (John Schlesinger Britannia Award for Excellence in Directing), Ewan McGregor (The BAFTA LA Britannia Humanitarian Award), Felicity Jones (Britannia Award for British Artist of the Year), Ricky Gervais (Charlie Chaplin Britannia Award for Excellence in Comedy), and Samuel L. Jackson (Albert R. Broccoli Britannia Award for Worldwide Contribution to Entertainment). When Pop TV broadcast the 2016 event five days later -- on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 from 8-9:35pm ET/PT -- the program also featured presenters Jennifer Lawrence, Jake Gyllenhaal, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Tom Hanks, Christopher Guest, and Brie Larson.
