Plot Synopsis

BUYING ALASKA follows people looking for homes in The Last Frontier, as they sometimes balance their desires for indoor plumbing and running water with the area's main attractions: extraordinary landscapes, extreme seclusion, and outdoor sports in the backyard. Offering much more than living quarters, these properties are so in tune with nature that they offer the ability to hunt and fish from a back deck. Plus, many properties include their own self-sustainable features, such as smokehouses and greenhouses. However, there are also dangers that come with all the beauty, and living in this rugged and remote terrain can lead to animal attacks and brutal winters that cut you off from society. Each 30-minute episode features a single family, including these families in Season 1: Robert and Kristen Lamb and their four children, who are looking for a cabin right on Kachemak Bay so they can be near their favorite fishing spots when they travel from Utah every year; Scott and Kelly, Alaskan born-and-bred outdoorsmen, who love fishing and want a place on the Kenai River, home to the some of the greatest King Salmon fishing; Andy and Carolyn, avid dogsledders from New Jersey, who are moving to Alaska in hopes of becoming champion dog mushers and are looking for a home where they can raise and train their team; Ryan and Skippy, who want to get everything they need to live right on their own land; Bud Jacque, a former Merchant Marine looking for his Alaskan wilderness home with his wife, Susan, who just wants is a great view and somewhere he can spend his days hunting and fishing; and many more prospective home buyers in the great state of Alaska. Season 2 of BUYING ALASKA premiered on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 9pm ET/PT, as Destination America showed back-to-back new episodes. The second season featured these couples and families: newlyweds Garret and Noelle, who want a remote home in the Alaskan wilderness; Matt and Jessica, who want to move into a new home near the ocean around Juneau; Sean and Jolene, who want a home in the remote Alaskan village of Gustavus; Pete and Anja Radano, who are looking for an Alaskan home that is right for them and their 21 dogs; and many more homebuyers. BUYING ALASKA returned for its third season on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 9pm ET/PT, as Destination America premiered back-to-back new episodes. In the Season 3 premiere, "Cabin Upgrade," Todd and Kristy have been living in a dry cabin in Talkeetna, Alaska, but they need to upgrade to a bigger home -- one that has running water and electricity. Then in the night's second new episode, "Flip Flops to Snowshoes," Florida natives Michael and Miranda have just moved to Alaska, and they're preparing for their adventure in the Last Frontier.

On March 23, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT, Destination America premiered the Season 3 finale of BUYING ALASKA, showing the new episode as part of an all-day marathon (2pm-Midnight ET/PT). In this season ender, "Rainforest Cabins," Bryan and Amy want to leave their trailer home behind for a bigger house in the Alaskan rainforest of Juneau. Alaska's state capital is the most expensive city in the state, so to find a house in their budget they'll need to look in some far off places.
