Plot Synopsis

CALIFORNIA FOREVER is a two-part special that documents the history of the Golden State's state park systems, chronicles the people who preserve them, and presents the very real challenges these parks are currently facing. The two episodes are: "The History of California State Parks," which highlights the discovery and creation of the state's parks and celebrates the individuals and groups whose passion and commitment helped preserve and protect them for future generations; and "Parks for the Future," which documents the parks' issues, including habitat destruction by overuse, establishing historic sites that commemorate people and events from diverse cultures, and imminent park closures. This program was produced by Sally Kaplan and David Vassar, who were inspired after watching the battle between conservationists and developers over the proposed Orange County Toll Road which would have paved over a portion of San Onofre State Beach.
