Plot Synopsis

Haunted by a past family tragedy, private investigator Jackson Brodie -- a tough former soldier and policeman -- struggles to balance his personal and professional life while coming to the rescue of the bereaved, the lost and the dysfunctional in the Scottish city of Edinburgh. Jackson's cheerful young daughter, Marlee, finds his musical taste depressing, with his personal playlist of American folk and country stars as Lucinda Williams, Iris DeMent, Nanci Griffith, and Eliza Gilkyson. As Jackson tries to solve crimes and his own life problems, he interacts with: Detective Inspector Louise Munroe, his sometime soulmate and former colleague on the Edinburgh police; his receptionist Deborah; and his ex-wife Josie. PBS aired the U.S. premiere of this series on Sunday, October 16, 2011 at 9pm ET, as part of MASTERPIECE MYSTERY.
