Plot Synopsis

CHASING SHACKLETON follows Tim Jarvis and his crew, as they re-enact Sir Ernest Shackleton's 1914 journey of survival on an 800-mile boat journey across the Southern Ocean and deadly mountain crossing of South Georgia. Using only the tools and supplies that Shackleton's team used, this crew of six intrepid explorers, led by Jarvis, duplicate his epic sea-and-land voyage in a 22-foot replica of the original explorers' wooden lifeboat, James Caird. When the ship The Endurance was crushed by ice and sank, Shackleton's heroic leadership in the face of almost certain death saved the lives of 27 men stranded in the Antarctic for more than 500 days. His exploits have inspired explorers across every continent over many generations, including Jarvis, who battles injury, illness and bad weather in this three-part series, as he crosses the sea from Elephant Island and faces a journey over the mountains of South Georgia.
