Plot Synopsis

CITIZEN ROSE is a four-part docuseries that follows artist/activist Rose McGowan as she readies her memoir/manifesto, "Brave," for release while delving into her world: the art, the #ROSEARMY, her special punk brand of activism, and the music she makes to heal. In the span of ten days, McGowan was arrested, met with former President Barack Obama, and became one of TIME Magazine's "People of the Year" -- all while navigating the minefield of those trying to silence her. By going up against the Hollywood machine, she has shown true courage in the face of adversity. Now, in this series, she processes, in almost real-time, the massive social change she has helped usher in as well as fight back against those who have hurt so many, including her. E! premiered CITIZEN ROSE on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at 8pm ET/PT with a two-hour documentary, followed by three one-hour on Thursdays at 10pm beginning May 17:

"Brave" (May 17 @ 10pm): Rose is excited to enter the next chapter of her life with her launch of her book, "Brave," and the press tour to promote it. But as the media focuses more on the details of Rose's assault instead of the message in her book, her years of built up trauma start to surface and Rose is pushed to her breaking point when a protestor disrupts a reading of her book at Barnes and Noble.

"Trauma" (May 24 @ 10pm): After being verbally attacked by a protester at a reading for her book, Rose cancels the remainder of her press tour and travels with her aunt, Rory, to an undisclosed location to begin therapy to address a lifetime's worth of trauma. In therapy, Rose comes face to face with the tough knowledge that, in order to rebuild her life, she might have to scale back her activism and start living for herself.

"Cult" (May 31 @ 10pm): Rose and her aunt Rory have an emotional reunion with Rose's sister Eva in Paris before heading to Italy to meet up with fellow actress Asia Argento in Rome to march with thousands of women in a triumphant International Women's March. Later, Rose revisits the area where her father ran a chapter of the Children of God cult. Plus, McGowan is moved to tears as she accompanies Argento to a daunting mural which represents those who've died at the hands of domestic violence. "All of these represent one of the many," Asia somberly reflects. "One woman every three days gets killed in Italy from their person that was telling them they loved them." Understandably, the CHARMED alum was more than moved by the poignant street art. In an attempt to pay tribute to her fallen sisters, Rose speaks aloud several of the victims' names. "Seeing this wall of women just shows how much work there is to be done," Rose notes. "I like to see passed just the figures," McGowan stresses. "Think of who they were. That they had a life. That they existed. That they mattered."
