Plot Synopsis

Marcus du Sautoy, Professor of Mathematics at the University of Oxford, uncovers a hidden numerical code that underpins the world and reveals the meaning of this code. In three, 60-minute episodes, Prof. du Sautoy explores: "Numbers," revealing how significant numbers apear throughout the natural world and how they're part of a hidden mathematical world that contains the rules that govern everything on our planet -- and beyond; "Shapes," uncovering patterns that explain the shape of the world around us, including randomness and then the hexagonal columns of Northern Ireland's Giant's Causeway -- which are also found in rock formations, honeycomb, salt crystals and soap bubbles; and "Prediction," chronicling what the code can say about our future, including lunar eclipses, lemming's suicidal reputation, and how to catch a serial killer. Science Channel aired the U.S. premiere of this series on Sunday, September 23, 2012, airing all three episodes back-to-back on the same night, starting at 8pm ET.
