Plot Synopsis

Thirteen years after their son's murder at the hands of a racist gang, Stephen Lawrence's parents continue their fight for justice. Meanwhile, DCI Clive Driscoll is convinced the case can still be solved, despite opposition from within the police. Driscoll tries to win the trust of the Lawrence family and key witnesses, and after a forensic breakthrough, the team need to prove the integrity of the evidence, which becomes a focal point of court proceedings when two men eventually stand trial for Stephen's murder. CONVICTION: THE CASE OF STEPHEN LAWRENCE made its U.S. debut on Monday, February 21, 2022, as Acorn TV released the entire three-episode series.

Even though the Lawrences knew within days the identity of their son's killers, the original investigation had failed to convict those responsible. The Lawrences' extraordinary campaign for justice led to a Public Inquiry which branded the Metropolitan Police institutionally racist, brought about sweeping changes in the law and police practices, and transformed thinking and understanding of racial inequality in the UK. Yet six years on from the Inquiry, the Lawrences still had not achieved what they wanted above all -- justice for Stephen. This drama tells the story of the ongoing campaign and how a detective, DCI Clive Driscoll -- working closely with Doreen and Neville Lawrence -- finally puts together an investigation that secures the convictions of two of the gang that killed Stephen.
