Plot Synopsis

In preparation for December 21, 2012, the prophetic apocalyptic date delivered in stone by the ancient Maya, COUNTDOWN TO APOCALYPSE revisits end-of-world predictions, talks with scientists and experts, and reveals how people in the United States are preparing for doomsday. Showing how ancient prophecy and modern science collide, each 60-minute episode highlights a single prophecy, including: "Maya Messengers," chronicling how a rare galactic alignment will take place on 12/21/12 -- and as the alignment happens, our sun will be entering its most violent solar storm cycle -- and how these events could affect Earth; "Four Horsemen," as described in the New Testament's Book of Revelation, for which some believers and preppers see current events -- a global pandemic waiting in the wings, worldwide hunger at an all-time high and the specter of World War III hanging over the Middle East -- as confirmation of the Bible's predictions; "Nostradamus," a prophet who centuries ago had visions of the end of our modern world, whose prophecies are again gaining popularity as preppers in Texas and South Florida show off their state-of-the-art bunkers and underground shelter community; and "Hopie Blue Star," the astronomical sign predicted by the Hopi people of the Arizona Desert, which signals the end of the world as massive earthquakes, tsunamis and super-volcanos would immediately follow the emergence of the Blue Star and threaten the lives of millions.
