Plot Synopsis
From executive producer Jessica Biel, CRUEL SUMMER is a one-hour anthology series that features a new cast and a new mystery each season.
Season 1 is a psychological thriller that follows two young women: Kate Wallis, the popular girl with a charmed life who one day goes missing, and Jeanette Turner, the nerdy wannabe who is accused of being connected to Kate's disappearance. All signs point to Jeanette's guilt, but is Kate really who she seems to be? Taking place over three summers in the 1990s when Kate goes missing and Jeanette transforms from a sweet and awkward outlier to the most popular girl in town, eventually becoming the most despised person in America. CRUEL SUMMER debuted on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 from 9-11pm ET/PT, as Freeform premiered back-to-back episodes.
Set in an idyllic waterfront town in the Pacific Northwest, the sophomore season of CRUEL SUMMER premiered with back-to-back episodes from 9-11pm ET/PT on Freeform on Monday, June 5, 2023. A new episode debuted each Monday at 10pm. The next chapter of CRUEL SUMMER follows the rise and fall of an intense teenage friendship. Approaching the story from three different timelines surrounding Y2K, the season twists and turns as it tracks the early friendship between Megan, Isabella and Megan's best friend Luke, the love triangle that blossomed, and the mystery that would impact all of their lives going forward.
