Plot Synopsis

Michigan native Kevin Dykstra is obsessed with a deathbed confession made by George Alexander Abbott to a lighthouse keeper in the 1890s about a national treasure dating back to the Civil War. The story goes that Union soldiers from Michigan tracked down Confederate president Jefferson Davis in 1865 before he could flee the country. These troops allegedly confiscated millions of dollars worth of Confederate gold and silver that Davis was transporting, and carried out a daring plot to smuggle it nearly 1,000 miles back home using the burgeoning railway system. According to that confession, part of the stolen treasury was allegedly put into a train car on a barge that was deliberately pushed off a ferry into Lake Michigan, where Dykstra believes it still remains. His quest to prove it ultimately takes him and his team to the bottom of Lake Michigan. Dykstra has been on a seven-year quest to solve what happened to the lost gold of the Civil War and believes he can find the sunken train car. However, the sonar scanning of an estimated one hundred square miles involves tens of thousands of dollars and Dykstra needs to show tangible proof of his theory to Marty Lagina, star of THE CURSE OF OAK ISLAND, before the Traverse City businessman invests in Kevin's operation. Now, in THE CURSE OF CIVIL WAR GOLD, Dykstra and his team embark on a compelling hunt to the scene of the original heist; into bank vaults to search for secret tunnels constructed to help launder the loot; and ultimately to the bottom of Lake Michigan to finally decipher one of the biggest conspiracies in American history.

Season 2 of THE CURSE OF CIVIL WAR GOLD premiered on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at 10pm ET/PT on History Channel. In the season opener, "The Return," Alex Lagina joins Kevin Dykstra and his team in their quest to find 140 million dollars in Confederate gold they believe is on the bottom of Lake Michigan. On their first day back on the lake, new evidence suggests they may have found it.

On Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at 9pm ET/PT, History premiered "It Ain't Over 'Til It's Overboard," the Season 2 finale of THE CURSE OF CIVIL WAR GOLD. Marty joins Kevin and his team as they battle the elements and take one final shot at finding 140 million dollars of Confederate gold at the bottom of Lake Michigan.
