Plot Synopsis

Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable, yet our legal system relies heavily on these first-hand accounts when convicting criminals. That means one thing -- many people are in jail for crimes they didn't commit. Sometimes with no hope of appeal or parole. Most of them with no chance of finding the person who actually committed the crime. Craig Watkins wanted to change that. He ran for District Attorney in Dallas County, Texas in 2007, and he promised to fight for these people. Once he took office, he formed the nation's first-ever Conviction Integrity Unit in the District Attorney's Office to evaluate hundred of petitions for DNA testing and case reinvestigation. "Dallas DNA" spent six months following Craig Watkins, his Conviction Integrity Unit, and some of the men who were exonerated in this new process.
