Plot Synopsis

The Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards has been honoring excellence in all fields of daytime broadcast production since 1974. The Emmy is awarded in more than 60 categories, including acknowledgements for series, performers and all other technical and creative areas. The Daytime Entertainment Creative Arts Emmy, which honors the crafts behind the shows, are typically awarded in an untelevised ceremony one or two days before the Daytime Emmy Awards, which honors lead, supporting, and younger actor/actress in a drama series, as well as many other categories. The Daytime Creative Arts and Entertainment Emmy Awards, which honors the crafts behind the shows, were given out on Friday, June 20, 2014 at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles in a non-televised ceremony, where Russell Morash, the creator of how-to television, was honored with a Lifetime Achievement award. Two days later on Sunday, June 22, 2014, Kathy Griffin hosted the 41st DAYTIME EMMY AWARDS, which took place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel and was streamed live online at www.daytimeemmys.net beginning at 8pm ET/5pm PT with red-carpet coverage beginning two hours earlier: 6pm ET/3pm PT. At this year's ceremony, Emmy Awards were handed out for 25 categories, including several new ones, including: Entertainment News; Outstanding New Approaches Drama Series; Outstanding Morning Program in Spanish; Outstanding Entertainment Program in Spanish; and Outstanding Daytime Talent in a Spanish-Language Program.

Hosted by Nischelle Turner and Kevin Frazier, the 50th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards premiered on Friday, December 16, 2024 from 9-11pm ET (live)/PT (tape) on CBS from the Westin Bonaventure Los Angeles. The two-hour program is available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+ (live on Paramount+ with Showtime and on-demand on Paramount+ Essential).

Actor Shemar Moore present the Lifetime Achievement Honor to Susan Lucci. Moore famously presented Lucci with her landmark first Daytime Emmy Award in 1999 after she had been nominated in the lead actress category 19 times for her portrayal of Erica Kane in ALL MY CHILDREN. At the time of opening the envelope, Moore famously exclaimed, "the streak is over!" in what is frequently cited as one of the greatest awards show moments in history.

Jennifer Nettles will perform "Life is Sweet" for the In Memoriam segment, which pays tribute to the stars and contributors in the field of daytime whom we lost this past year. The song originally premiered on the Daytime Emmy-nominated television show "American Anthems" and is also nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award for original song.

Presenters for the evening will include icons of daytime as the show pays tribute to 50 years, including Lauralee Bell (Y&R), Peter Bergman (Y&R), Michael Damian (Y&R), Don Diamont (B&B), Mary Beth Evans (DAYS OF OUR LIVES), Akbar Gbajabiamila (THE TALK), Drake Hogestyn (DAYS OF OUR LIVES), Finola Hughes (GENERAL HOSPITAL), Amanda Kloots (THE TALK), A Martinez (THE BAY), John McCook (B&B), Melody Thomas Scott (Y&R), Heather Tom (B&B), Donnell Turner (GENERAL HOSPITAL), Kym Whitley (THE BAY) and Laura Wright (GENERAL HOSPITAL). Maury Povich and Connie Chung make special appearances to present the Gold & Silver Circle honorees and the In Memoriam tribute, respectively.
