Plot Synopsis

Each year since 1959, the Daytona International Speedway, a 2.5-mile racetrack in Daytona Beach, Florida, has hosted an event featuring stock cars competing against each other in a 500-mile race. The DAYTONA 500 was first televised in 1960, for its second running, with CBS showing 90 minutes of live action on Sunday afternoon during its CBS SPORTS SPECTACULAR on February 14. It wasn't until 1979 that the DAYTONA 500 was shown live, from flag to flag and in its entirety.
For the 59th running of the DAYTONA 500, FOX presented the race live from 2-6pm ET/11am-3pm PT on Sunday, February 26, 2017, with Chase Elliott starting at the pole position for the second consecutive year. The race was preceded by 60 minutes of analysis and previews of The Great American Race, as well as a review of qualifying and the other races from the DAYTONA 500 weekend. Plus, Dale Earnhardt Jr. makes his return to competition driving after missing the end of the end of the 2016 while recovering from a concussion.
