Plot Synopsis

Using ballistic tests, forensic analysis and re-creations, DEADLY SHOOTOUTS is a half-hour series that examines legendary shootouts, separating fact from Hollywood fiction. Each 30-minute episode features a different shootout, including: one of the deadliest shootouts of the gangster era that unfolded in Joplin, Missouri, transforming Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow from petty crooks into criminal legends; one of the most sensational and prolonged gunfights in the gangster era that started when federal agents swarmed the suspected hideout of the ruthless and heavily armed Barker-Karpis gang; Carlos Hathcock, the original American Sniper, for whom time was irrelevant and kills shots could take days; a three-day incident that escalated into the bloodiest escape attempt in Alcatraz history, as six desperate criminals staged a cunning breakout, resulting in the Battle of Alcatraz; a yearlong feud between two sides of the law in the frontier town of Tombstone that culminated in 30 seconds of lead-fueled fury, one of the most glorified shootouts known as the Gunfight at the OK Corral; and the Great Northfield Raid, where, on a fall morning in 1897, the notorious James-Younger gang, led by Frank and Jesse James, rode into town to knock off a local bank -- but their plan went south quickly.
