Plot Synopsis

After the Votans, a collection of seven different alien races, invade Earth and battle humans for decades, the newly-formed civilization of humans and aliens must learn to co-exist peacefully. Set in the near future, this series focuses on the boom-town of Defiance, which sits atop the ruins of St. Louis, while the massively multiplayer online game allows players to explore the new frontier of the San Francisco Bay area. The TV series and game exist in a single universe, where their respective narratives will inform one another and evolve together into one overall story. DEFIANCE returned for its second season on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at 8pm ET/PT on Syfy. When Season 2 opens, the lives of the townspeople are in drastic turmoil. The Earth Republic has assumed control of the town, with far-reaching consequences including a new mayor. Nolan traverses the badlands to find a lost Irisa, Amanda has an unexpected new role in the town as she searches for Kenya, and the Tarr family desperately tries to keep control of their criminal empire in the midst of dramatic changes. Joining the cast this season are James Murray as new mayor Niles Pottinger, Anna Hopkins as Earth Republic soldier Jessica 'Berlin' Rai and William Atherton as Earth Republic official Viceroy Mercado. Plus, Linda Hamilton has a recurring guest appearance as Pilar, the mysterious and long-separated wife of Rafe McCawley. In the first hour of the Season 2 finale, "All Things Must Pass," Nolan tries to save Tommy and stop Irisa before the plan is activated; meanwhile, tensions rise between Amanda and Stahma. Then, in "I Almost Prayed," the fate of Defiance hangs in the balance, as Nolan fights against the republic and old friends to stop Irisa. The 13-episode third season of DEFIANCE premiered on Friday, June 12, 2015 at 8pm ET/PT with a two-hour season opener. Following the events of last season's cliffhanger finale, Season 3 opens on the eve of an impending military siege -- and the surprise arrival of the mysterious and nearly extinct Omec, an alien race of warriors. Nolan and Irisa are rescued from their underground prison just to discover enemy forces marching on an utterly defenseless Defiance; the Tarr clan is on a quest to reunite after Pilar shows how unstable she truly is. The show's third season features cast additions Lee Tergesen as military leader General Rahm Tak, Nichole Galicia as Kindzi and Conrad Coates as her father, T'evgin. Returning cast includes Grant Bowler, Julie Benz, Stephanie Leonidas, Tony Curran, Jaime Murray, Graham Greene and Jesse Rath.
