Plot Synopsis

Created by Jason Jones and Samantha Bee -- and inspired by their own experiences with family trips -- THE DETOUR is a half-hour comedy series that follows the family's unfiltered dad, Nate, as he hits the road with wife Robin and kids Delilah and Jared. Every leg of their trip is fraught with disaster as they encounter one hellish turn after another. If there's trouble on the road, this family will find it and plow into it. On Monday, April 4, 2016 at Midnight ET/9pm PT, TBS premiered a sneak peek of THE DETOUR immediately following the postgame show for the 2016 NCAA Men's Basketball Championship featuring Villanova and North Carolina. The series officially debuted one week later on Monday, April 11 from 9-10pm ET/PT, as TBS premiered back-to-back new episodes. The series opens with Nate, Robin and the kids heading from Syracuse to Ft. Lauderdale in a janky minivan instead of flying. Between truckers, aggressive drivers and road side breakfast spots, nothing is really what it seems on the road.

The sophomore season of THE DETOUR premieres with back-to-back episodes on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 from 10-11pm ET/PT. During the second season of this all-too-honest look at the family dynamic, Nate receives a promising job opportunity, and the family moves to New York City for a fresh start. Everyone is excited except for Robin, who knows that a move to the big city means her mysterious past may catch up with her. While Nate and Robin adjust to new jobs, new neighbors and old flames, Jared and Delilah dive headfirst into the awkwardness of adolescence. Despite questionable parenting and terrible decisions, the love the Parkers have for each other will keep the family intact as they endure another disastrous adventure. The second season features a number of special guests, including series executive producer and co-creator Samantha Bee, as well as James Cromwell, John Oliver, Laura Benanti, Jeffrey Vincent Parise and Max Casella.

Season 3 of THE DETOUR premiered on Tuesday, January, 23, 2018 at 10:30pm ET/PT on TBS. The new season finds the Parkers on the lam in Alaska. After months of running, the family finally finds a community of misfits and decides to settle down and start rebuilding their lives. But they're not out of the woods, as the law isn't far behind. While Nate and Robin learn to take on new roles in the family, Delilah starts to become a young woman. And Jareb...well he's still Jareb. Well intentioned, bad parenting at its best in the Land of the Midnight Sun. But their lies and deceits soon come back to haunt them.

TBS premiered the fourth season of THE DETOUR on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at 10:30pm ET/PT. Season 4 finds the wildly dysfunctional Parker family on an epic world-wide search for their runaway teen daughter, Delilah. From Tibet to Paraguay and everywhere in between, The Parkers will stop at nothing to get their baby girl back - and piss off everyone in the process.
On Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at 10:30pm ET/PT, TBS premiered "The Groom," the Season 4 finale of THE DETOUR. Nate finally gets married to save his family.
