Plot Synopsis
THE DIRECTOR'S CHAIR features host Robert Rodriguez having intimate, one-on-one chats with Hollywood's most notable directors, as they engage in revealing and unexpected exchanges about the world of filmmaking. In each 60-minute episode, Rodriguez speaks with a different director, as they reveal their inspirations, explore their early and memorable films, and share what they have learned about the industry they love. When THE DIRECTOR'S CHAIR debuted on Saturday, May 10, 2014, John Carpenter was the first guest and El Rey Network presented "Carpenterror," a seven-hour marathon (1-8pm ET/PT; 8pm-3am ET/PT) dedicated to John Carpenter, highlighted by the series opener (1pm & 8pm) and three classic Carpenter films, including THE FOG (2pm & 9pm); ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13 (4pm & 11pm); and ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK (6pm & 1am). Subsequent episodes featured: a two-parter with Quentin Tarantino (Wednesday, August 13 & September 17, 2014), his long-time friend and co-collaborator; Francis Ford Coppola (Monday, March 2, 2015); theater director, university professor, author, activist, and political organizer Luis Valdez (Sunday, March 29, 2015); Robert Zemeckis (Sunday, May 31, 2015); Michael Mann (Sunday, August 9, 2015); George Miller (Sunday, August 30, 2015); and more.

On Monday, November 26, 2018 at 8pm ET, El Rey Network premiered a special episode of THE DIRECTOR'S CHAIR, with legendary Barbra Streisand sitting down with Robert Rodriguez for a rare in-person interview. Rodriguez and Streisand discuss her journey from actress/singer to director/producer and her experience breaking through the barrier of Hollywood's "boys club." Streisand reflects on her first directing role on the 1983 film Yentl and says, "I was so fortunate to work in England as a director for the first time. It was so smooth and they were so supportive, because they had no misogynistic feelings -- they had a queen, Margaret Thatcher was the prime minister at the time...and whatever I wanted to do they would say... 'if that's what you see, we will give that to you.'"
"In my family growing up, there simply was no bigger star than Barbra. She was a constant source of inspiration and entertainment," said Robert Rodriguez, Founder and Chairman of El Rey Network. "She empowers everyone, but especially minorities and women or anyone who feels they are on the outside looking in. She broke through with relentless determination and hard work. No one has ever come close to her level of talent and accomplishments in so many different areas, and no one ever will."
