Plot Synopsis

This drama series follows the adventures of a mysterious time-traveler, known simply as ''The Doctor,'' and his companions who risk death and danger battling aliens and monsters as they traverse the spectrum of time. Sci Fi aired the U.S. premiere of this series on Friday, March 17, 2006. Matt Smith takes on the role of the 11th incarnation of ''The Doctor,'' taking over the role from the 10th Doctor, portrayed by David Tennant, at the beginning of Series 5. The 10th Doctor had a group of companions with Rose as the main person in the ensemble. The 11th Doctor had a single companion, Amy Pond, but gained a new companion, Clara, in "The Snowmen" Christmas special, which first aired in the United States on Christmas Day 2012 at 9pm ET. Three months later, Clara Oswald was officially introduced as the Doctor's newest companion when DOCTOR WHO returned for its Season 7 spring premiere on Saturday, March 30 at 8pm ET/PT on BBC America, the first of eight new episodes during which the duo found new adversaries and familiar friends around every corner as they journeyed from the bottom of the ocean in a submarine to the center of the TARDIS and beyond. Plus, the Cybermen made a thunderous return and the Ice Warrior arrived in an unexpected place. The Doctor regenerated in the 2013 Christmas special, DOCTOR WHO: THE TIME OF THE DOCTOR, which premiered on Wednesday, December 25th at 9pm ET on BBC America. In this special, the Eleventh Doctor received a signal that brought him face-to-face with a massed force of the universe's deadliest aliens. What this signal means for his future life is unknown, but when the clock strikes twelve, the Eleventh will be no more. DOCTOR WHO returned for its eighth season on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 8:15pm ET/PT on BBC America. The episode ushers in a new era for the show as Peter Capaldi steps into the role of the Doctor. Fans first got a glimpse of Capaldi's Doctor in the 50th Anniversary Special, and again in the final minutes of last year's Christmas Special, but the upcoming season premiere marks the first full episode for the Twelfth Doctor. Capaldi will be joined by Jenna Coleman, who returns as companion Clara Oswald, and Samuel Anderson, who joins the cast as Danny Pink, a teacher at Coal Hill School where Clara also works. DOCTOR WHO returned for its 12-episode ninth season on BBC America on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT, launching with a two-parter, "The Magician's Apprentice" and "The Witch's Familiar," written by Steven Moffat and directed by Hettie Macdonald. Having the time of their lives, the Doctor and Clara embark on reckless adventures in all of space and time. Michelle Gomez is back as the villainous Missy (aka The Master) and Maisie Williams guest stars. The new season sees the Doctor and Clara going on a journey that takes them to deadly alien planets, creepy underwater bases, Viking villages, a global Zygon uprising, and through hidden alien dens, to the very end of time itself. Meeting monsters old and new, the Doctor comes face-to-face with Missy, a city of Daleks, deadly mercenaries called the Mire, terrifying ghosts and more.

Three weeks earlier, on September 2, BBC America announced that Alex Kingston wlll return to Cardiff to reclaim her role as Professor River Song for the highly anticipated 2015 DOCTOR WHO Christmas special, premiering on Christmas Day on BBC AMERICA. It's Christmas Day in the future and the TARDIS is parked on a snowy village street, covered in icicles, awaiting its next adventure. Time traveler River Song meets her husband's new incarnation, in the form of Peter Capaldi, for the first time this Christmas.

Day one of filming the eleventh DOCTOR WHO Christmas special starts this week and is written by lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat, produced by Nikki Wilson and directed by Douglas Mackinnon. River Song made her first Doctor Who appearance in 2008 in "Silence in the Library" and "Forest of the Dead" and has appeared in 15 episodes to date. Award-winning Alex Kingston comments on her reappearance: "To be honest, I did not know whether River would ever return to the show, but here she is, back with the Doctor for the Christmas special. Steven Moffat is on glittering form, giving us an episode filled with humor and surprise guest castings. I met Peter for the first time at Monday's read-through, we had a laugh, and I am now excited and ready to start filming with him and the DOCTOR WHO team. Christmas in September?, why not!" Steven Moffat, lead writer and executive producer adds:
"Another Christmas, another special for DOCTOR WHO -- and what could be more special than the return of Alex Kingston as Professor River Song. The last time the Doctor saw her she was a ghost. The first time he met her, she died. So how can he be seeing her again? As ever, with the most complicated relationship in the universe, it's a matter of time ..." The witty line-up of guest cast joining Alex for a magical adventure on the TARDIS will be announced over the coming months.

On Christmas Day 2016 (Sunday, December 26) at 9pm ET/PT, BBC America aired the U.S. premiere of "Return of Doctor Mysterio" immediately following an all-day marathon (Noon-9pm) of encore episodes. In this new 90-minute holiday special, written by Steven Moffat, the Doctor join forces with a masked Superhero for an epic New York adventure. With brain-swapping aliens poised to attack, the Doctor and Nardole link up with an investigative reporter and a mysterious figure known only as The Ghost. Can the Doctor save Manhattan? And what will be revealed when we see behind the mask? In addition to Peter Capaldi starring as the Doctor, the special includes Matt Lucas as Nardole, Justin Chatwin as Grant and Charity Wakefield as an investigative journalist.
