Plot Synopsis

Narrated by James D'Arcy, ELIZABETH is an eight-episode documentary that chronicles the life of Queen Elizabeth II, commemorating the 66th anniversary of her accession to the throne (at the time the series debuted in the UK). Elizabeth II is the longest serving monarch in British history. During her reign she has appointed 13 Prime Ministers -- from Sir Winston Churchill to Theresa May -- and overseen the transformation of the British Empire into a new Commonwealth of diverse independent nations. She has experienced family triumphs and tragedies, and been forced to choose between supporting her family and doing her duty as monarch. Each one-hour episode includes interviews from prime ministers, close friends, royal household members and special advisers who know her best. ELIZABETH made its U.S. debut on Monday, May 2, 2022 at 8pm ET/PT on Smithsonian Channel.
