Plot Synopsis

EXPEDITION X is a one-hour docuseries that follows Josh Gates, field biologist Phil Torres and paranormal researcher Jessica Chobot as they investigate reports of supernatural encounters, mysterious creatures, and astonishing extraterrestrial phenomena. Whether trekking through the remote jungles of Cambodia in search of a legendary ape-man or exploring the secrets of the world's largest cave system in the United States, the EXPEDITION X team takes viewers to the stranger side of the unknown while balancing the perspectives of a true believer and someone driven by the need for more evidence.

The second season of EXPEDITION X premiered on Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at 9pm ET/PT on Discovery. Whether it's exploring pitch-black caverns to unmask the identity of the legendary Bell Witch, diving into Lake Champlain in search of America's version of the Loch Ness Monster, or trekking deep into the wilderness in pursuit of recent sightings of Bigfoot, the team has the truth in their sights. Working with experts and recent eyewitnesses and deploying an array of high-tech equipment, they'll shed new light on cases that have confounded and frightened us for generations. In the season opener, "Curse of the Old West Outlaw," Josh Gates' team heads West to investigate America's most haunted town. Locals claim the spirit of a notorious bandit spooks the town because of a wrongful hanging. Phil and Jess' investigation leads them into a dangerous abandoned gold mine.

Season 3 of EXPEDITION X debuted on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at 9pm ET/PT on Discovery. In the season opener, "American Werewolf," Josh Gates is on the ground with Jessica Chobot and Phil Torres to chase reports of a half-man, half-beast in rural Wisconsin. Frequent attacks and new sightings of the infamous Beast of Bray Road have left locals crippled with fear for three decades. And throughout the new season, Jessica and Phil continue to tackle the strangest mysteries and legends from around the country. Whether it's exploring the waters surrounding "UFO Island" just off the coast of California, chasing the legend of a seven foot tall humanoid creature in the eerily-named Ape Canyon, or ghost hunting on an abandoned canal rumored to be haunted by soldiers slaughtered in the Civil War, the EXPEDITION X team has the truth in its sights. Working with eyewitnesses and experts, and deploying a cutting-edge toolbox of high-tech equipment, Phil and Jess shed new light on cases that have confounded, frightened, and fascinated people for generations.

The fourth season of EXPEDITION X premiered on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at 8pm ET/PT on Discovery Channel, as Josh Gates, Phil Torres and Jessica Chobot continue to investigate history's strangest legends and mysteries around the world. This season, Josh sends Jessica, a supernatural true believer, and Phil, a curious skeptic, to work with experts and eyewitnesses, deploying everything from thermal drones and Data Acquisition cameras that are capable of spotting UFO's in the sky to infrasound detectors that identify sounds at frequencies below the range of human hearing, all to shed new light on cases that have confounded, fascinated, and frightened people for generations. From venturing into the unforgiving Appalachian wilderness to investigate the truth behind horrifying sightings of feral people, to unearthing clues to a flying beast lurking in the shadows of southern Iowa, Phil and Jessica search far and wide for the truth. In one of their most daring cases yet, Josh sends Phil and Jessica to Thailand in search of the cult behind terrifying warnings of global catastrophes and natural disasters. The risky search for answers intensifies as they gain access to the secretive sect's inner circle and even visit a secret compound deep in the mountains. The season culminates with an epic two-part special at Fort Morgan in Alabama where Phil and Jessica gain exclusive access to a decommissioned Civil War military fort - rumored to be haunted. After the case takes an unexpected turn, Josh calls on Amy Bruni and Adam Berry from Travel Channel's Kindred Spirits to join the team to further investigate. Phil and Jessica risk it all, using every resource available in their quest for answers to history's most baffling mysteries.

EXPEDITION X returned for its fifth season on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at 9pm ET/PT on Discovery Channel, as Josh Gates' team of investigators -- scientist Phil Torres and paranormal researcher Jessica Chobot -- continue to explore the stranger side of the unknown. Season 5 kicks off in the world's notorious Ring of Fire, where Phil and Jess investigate videos and eyewitness reports of mysterious objects flying around Mexico's tallest active volcano. Then, Jess and Phil test a bold scientific theory at the site of America's deadliest avalanche and train wreck, where witnesses report bizarre apparitions, and rumors swirl of a shocking cover up. This season, Phil and Jess journey from icy whitewater rapids in Alaska to the impenetrable jungles of Peru to uncover the truth behind the world's most unusual mysteries.

Season 6 of EXPEDITION X debuted on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at 9pm ET/PT on Discovery Channel. Josh Gates has decided it's time to really explore the dark side of our world. To this end, Gates has put together a team to undertake investigations delving into realms beyond the 'unknown.' He's picked Jessica Chobot and Phil Torres to mount unprecedented expeditions into the unexplained and perhaps...unexplainable. In the season opener, "Ghosts of Eloise Asylum (Part 1)," Josh and fellow paranormal researchers Phil and Jess investigate a decaying mental hospital in Detroit where reported hauntings threaten all who brave its abandoned halls.

On Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at 9pm ET/PT, Discovery Channel premiered the seventh season of EXPEDITION X. In Season 7, Phil and Jess head out on bigger and crazier adventures in their quest to explain the unexplained. Starting with a haunted forest in Transylvania where Josh Gates once spent the most terrifying night of his life, then to Fukushima, Japan, the site of one of the world's biggest nuclear disasters, and all the way to the most haunted guest house in America -- the paranormal activity they see might just be more frightening than ever.

In the season opener, "Transylvanian Terror," Phil and Jess explore the world's most haunted forest near the site of the Dracula legend and where Josh Gates had his most terrifying experience; during a night investigation, Jess finds herself being watched by someone or something sinister.
