Plot Synopsis

EXPLORING INDIA WITH BETTANY HUGHES is a two-part special that follows Bettany Hughes, who, alongside local experts and academics, takes viewers through her curated selection of Indian treasures. Traveling through this diverse country from North to South across two hour-long episodes, through countryside and cities, she discovers the fascinating past of this epically beautiful sub-continent. Bettany journeys through temples and palaces, exploring the latest finds in vast archaeological sites, immersing herself in local festivals and traditions, to reveal the histories and traditions that make India unique. Both installments of EXPLORING INDIA WITH BETTANY HUGHES made their U.S. debut on Monday, June 24, 2024 on Acorn TV:

"The North": Beginning her journey in the North, Bettany visits Varanasi, one of the holiest cities in India. Next, she travels to Fatehpur Sikri, exploring empty palaces and temples, before capping her northern tour with a visit to the iconic Taj Mahal.

"The South": Heading to the South of India, Bettany visits ruined palaces and temples in the 14th-century capital of the Vijayanagara Empire. She then stops in the state of Kerala, where she witnesses the extraordinary "theyyattam" dance.
