Plot Synopsis

When astronaut Molly Woods returns home after a 13-month solo mission in space, she tries reconnecting with her family, but her mystifying experiences in space lead to events that will ultimately change the course of human history. During her preliminary checkup back on Earth, Molly learns she is pregnant, which is surprising enough because she was alone on the Space Station performing experiments for more than a year -- but she was also infertile before she left for space. Her husband, Berry, is a top-rated scientist who designs and builds human robots at Humanichs Lab, where he works with his principal partner Julie and chief coder Charlie. Despite her infertility, Molly and Berry already have a young son, Ethan, who is much more than he appears to be. In addition to her family, Molly relies on Sam Barton, her best friend and closest confidant, and Alvin Sparks, a former astronaut, who now is the director of the space program privatized into a single entity by a wealthy technological genius, Hideki Yasumoto. EXTANT, executive produced by Steven Spielberg and co-executive produced by Halle Berry, premiered on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at 9pm ET/PT on CBS. In the season ender, "Ascension," Molly returns to space in an attempt redirect the Seraphim away from Earth and protect the world's population from the deadly spores. Also, John discovers that Odin's plan has put Ethan in terrible danger. EXTANT made its sophomore debut on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at 10pm ET/PT on CBS. Six months after her life unraveled and dark secrets were revealed, Molly is confined to a psychiatric hospital when she learns of bizarre deaths that sound eerily similar to those she witnessed in space. When she escapes to investigate, she crosses paths with JD Richter, a determined cop who just signed on to the case. Jeffrey Dean Morgan joins the cast as JD Richter, a cop and bounty hunter who thrives on solving the unsolvable. Plus, David Morrissey recurs as General Tobias Shepherd, the respected head of the Global Security Commission, and Kiersey Clemons recurs as Lucy, Ethan's Humanich, who, like him, is an entirely lifelike robot.

On Wednesday, September 9, 2015 from 9-11pm ET/PT, CBS premiered the Season 2 finale of EXTANT, showing back-to-back new episodes. In the night's first new episode, "Double Vision," Molly reveals disturbing new details about Shepherd's death to the GSC, and Lucy makes a powerful move against the humans and hybrids that could have devastating global repercussions. Then, in the season finale (10pm), "The Greater Good," Molly and JD frantically race to the hybrids to stop a Humanich plot that will destroy the human race. Also, Lucy has a shocking realization about the GSC that forces her to question her allegiance and put Ethan at risk.
