Plot Synopsis

THE FOOD THAT BUILT AMERICA is a three-part docuseries that chronicles stories of innovation and rivalries behind food industry tycoons Milton Hershey, John and Will Kellogg, Henry Heinz, C.W. Post, the McDonald brothers and more. Many people know the products, but few know the stories of everlasting grit and determination that made these names the household brands that America knows and loves. Each two-hour episode tells the stories of the birth of iconic American companies through the point of view of the problem-solving, system-building, money-making entrepreneurs who founded them. It is a story of American innovation and perseverance. Delving deep into the lives of those who would eventually revolutionize food and change the culinary landscape of America forever, the series highlights their product inspiration alongside their numerous trials, triumphs and tribulations. Viewers will also receive contributing insights and expert commentary from celebrity chefs, food writers, and successful entrepreneurs including Adam Richman, Buddy Valastro, Padma Lakshmi, Gail Simmons and many more. New episodes of THE FOOD THAT BUILT AMERICA premiere on three consecutive nights from 9-11pm ET/PT, beginning Sunday, August 11 through Tuesday, August 13, 2019. Episodes include:

"Lines in the Sand" (Premieres Sunday, August 11, 2019 from 9-11pm ET/PT): In the wake of the Civil War, a revolution is taking place on the backs of visionary entrepreneurs of industry. Before they become brand names, budding innovators like Henry Heinz, John and Will Kellogg, and C.W. Post push the limits of ingenuity to launch businesses that will revolutionize industry, and change the landscape of the nation forever.

"Best Served Cold" (Premieres Monday, August 12, 2019 from 9-11pm ET/PT): At the dawn of the 20th Century, a new breed of innovator rises up to expand American industry and push the limits of new technology. A trailblazer named Milton Hershey bets big on a revolutionary idea, and then a father and son duo named Mars start on a path to challenge the chocolate throne. Plus, the titans of food weather the storm of the First World War and push the boundaries of invention in the Roaring Twenties.

"The Spoils of War" (Premieres Tuesday, August 13, 2019 from 9-11pm ET/PT): As the Great Depression hits, the titans of food push the envelope of innovation to feed a hungry nation. Then WWII sees competing industrial empires joining the war effort in a united front to fuel the forces fighting for freedom abroad. And in Post-War America, visionaries like Harland Sanders, the McDonald brothers and Ray Kroc battle to revolutionize the restaurant industry, and pave the way for the golden age of the American dream.
