Plot Synopsis

Executive produced by Shonda Rhimes and series creator Paul William Davies, FOR THE PEOPLE is a one-hour legal drama series that follows six talented young lawyers working on opposite sides of the law and handling the most high-profile and high-stakes federal cases in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York (aka The Mother Court). Best friends Sandra Bell and Allison Adams serve as public defenders alongside Jay Simmons and their boss, Federal Public Defender Jill Carlan. They face off against prosecutors Seth Oliver, Leonard Knox, Kate Littlejohn and their supervisor, chief of the Criminal Division in the U.S. Attorney's Office, Roger Gunn. These lawyers are joined by Judge Nicholas Byrne, who rules on some of the court's most controversial cases, and Tina Krissman, the formidable clerk of Court who keeps everyone in line. These young lawyers are put to the test both personally and professionally as their lives intersect in and out of America's most prestigious trial court, as they try to bring home wins and prove they are worthy of The Mother Court.

Season 2 of FOR THE PEOPLE premiered on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at 10pm ET/PT on ABC. In the season opener, "First Inning," Sandra, with the help of new investigator Ted, must defend a teenage gamer whose online argument leads to a police raid that ends with the death of a United States senator. A personal connection to the "swatting" case makes Roger determined to charge the teenager to the fullest extent of the law and pushes Kate to her limits in the process. Meanwhile, Jay is tasked with defending New York's most spoiled millennial from going to jail for her petty crimes.
