Plot Synopsis

Each year, the President and First Lady celebrate Independence Day at the White House. President Thomas Jefferson first established the traditions of a Fourth of July celebration at the White House. President Jefferson opened the house and greeted the people along with diplomats, civil and military officers, and Cherokee chiefs. Since that time, the festivities have evolved to include parades, fireworks, and live music. The event was first televised by Hallmark Channel in 2018, as President Donald J. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump welcomed military families to the South Lawn for an afternoon picnic. In the evening, staff and guests joined the military families to enjoy the traditional fireworks display provided by the National Park Service.

Hosted by the National Park Service and the National Park Foundation, the 90-minute event features live performances from musical artists Sara Evans, pianist Lola Astanova, former AMERICAN IDOL finalist Jax, recent AMERICAN IDOL finalist Jonny Brenns, "The President's Own" United States Marines Band, The United States Navy Band Sea Chanters, and The United States Air Force Band's Max Impact.
