Plot Synopsis

Host Annie Sibonney travels around Spain, sampling the culture and food of the country's various regions -- from the sun-drenched beaches of Mallorca to the rugged Pyrenees and from the quaint fishing villages of Galicia to cosmopolitan Madrid. Each 30-minute episode focuses on a different region of Spain or a different symbolic dish, and Annie visits with local restaurateurs, fishermen, grandmothers and Michelin-starred chefs to fully experience this country's love affair with food. In Basque Country, Annie samples cod kokotaxas, enjoys a tapas crawl and cooks with chef Juan Mari Arzak. In Madrid, she starts with drinks and tapas at Mercado San Miguel, enjoys fried calimari sandwiches on the streets of Madrid, savors an after-midnight meal at El Fogon de Trifon, and finishes the night with hot chocolate and churros. Annie visits Valencia, Alicante and Barcelona to sample every type of paella, including rabbit, pasta and seafood varieties. Then, she travels to Barcelona, Bilbao, and Catalonia to feast on the finest conservas, or canned food, including dried salted cod, smoked meat, and chicken and vegetables in the traditional vinegar-preserved escabeche style. Annie also enjoys seafood dishes in Galicia, where she helps female clam diggers, searches for percebes (goose barnacles), and cooks with Marcelo Tejedor in Santiago de Compostela.
