Plot Synopsis

Created by Stephen Neary, THE FUNGIES! is an animated comedy series that explores the prehistoric town of Fungietown through the whimsical quests of Seth, a young student at Fungietown Elementary. Seth loves science and sharing his exciting discoveries with all his Fungie friends. But in his search for the ultimate scientific adventure, Seth often stirs up trouble for Fungietown's colorful inhabitants leading to hilarious and heartwarming surprises. Characters include:

Seth: Seth loves science and he loves exploring. Prehistoric Earth is brand new and he's very excited about it! He loves sharing his findings with his fellow Fungies and wants to be respected for his work (even though he's 10 years old). Seth has a hard time sitting still in school -- he asks too many questions! Most Fungies think Seth is a precocious, chatty kid going through a phase, but they're not mean to Seth and genuinely enjoy his company. Seth's logic-wired brain causes him to overthink his problems. When focused on his goals, Seth can accidentally ignore the emotions of others (like those of his more empathetic brother, Pascal). Seth always means well, but his thirst for knowledge causes big problems for himself and his fellow Fungies!

Pascal: Seth sees the world through the lens of science, but his older brother Pascal sees the world through emotions and art! Pascal's got hunky arms, but he's an introverted softie at heart. 18 and still living at home, Pascal is still figuring stuff out. Seth is ambitious, but Pascal is so not. Pascal and Seth still share a room -- Pascal gets bottom bunk. A gifted artist, Pascal has a rich inner life. But while Seth loves showing off his projects, Pascal is more shy. Pascal is easily overwhelmed and loves being babied by his mother, Dr Nancy. Empathetic to a fault, Pascal's a HSP (Highly Sensitive Person). If you're sad, Pascal gets sad out of solidarity. Then he'll probably apologize for feeling that way.

Dr. Nancy: Seth and Pascal's mom, Dr. Nancy, is as loving and supportive as a Fungie mother could be. She encourages Seth, even if she doesn't completely understand all his science and exploring hobbies. She wants her kids to be happy! And she wants to be happy, herself, too. Dr. Nancy has an easier time relating to Pascal's lazy, at-home demeanor, but she's always amazed when Seth shows her something new or interesting. Dr Nancy works at the hospital, caring for sick Fungies and giving them replacement limbs when they need them.

The Twins: The Twins are Seth and Pascal's sort-of little connected siblings. Like sponges, the Twins are constantly absorbing the mannerisms of others. Dr. Nancy dotes on them constantly. In front of their mother, they're innocent babies. Around Seth and Pascal, they're relentless Fungie pranksters! In a snap, they can split apart to cover more ground. Random words and imitations aside, the Twins express themselves through an energetic, parkour-like ballet. They're part Buster Keaton, part cat (or two cats stuck together). The Twins are genderless and go by they/them, even when split apart.

HBO Max released the first half of Season 1 (20 episodes) on Thursday, August 20, 2020, followed by the last 20 episodes of the first season on October 8, 2020.

Season 2 of THE FUNGIES! dropped on Thursday, June 3, 2021, as HBO Max released 20 new episodes. Seth, Pascal, Dr. Nancy, Nevin, Lil Lemon and the rest of the gang are gearing up for all new prehistoric adventures in Fungietown.
