Plot Synopsis
Ellen Page and her best friend, Ian Daniel, set off on a personal journey to explore LGBTQ cultures around the world. In each one-hour episode of GAYCATION, Ellen and Ian travel from Japan to Brazil, Jamaica and here in America, where they discover the multiplicity of LGBTQ experiences, while meeting amazing people and hearing their deeply moving stories of struggle and triumph. In the series opener, Ellen and Ian are in Japan, on a journey which includes getting friendship-married at a Buddhist temple, working at a rent-a-friend agency and joining the party in the world's smallest gay bar. Viceland released the "Japan" episode on its YouTube channel on Wednesday, February 24, 2016, before airing the same program as a television sneak peek on Monday, February 29 at 8pm ET/PT and as the official television series premiere on Wednesday, March 2 at 10pm. GAYCATION returned for its second season on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at 10:30pm ET on Viceland. In Season 2, with visits to Ukraine, India, France and the Deep South, Ellen and Ian discover the multiplicity of LGBTQ experiences, meeting amazing people and hearing their deeply moving stories of struggle and triumph. The season opens with Ellen and Ian heading to Ukraine to meet with the LGBTQ activists fighting for visibility and equality in a post-Soviet nation a little more than two years after the revolution.
