Plot Synopsis

GENERAL HOSPITAL follows the passion, intrigue and adventure that takes place in the fictional town of Port Charles in upstate New York. On Monday, April 1, 2013 at 2pm ET/3pm PT, GENERAL HOSPITAL celebrated its Golden Anniversary as the longest running American soap opera currently in production and the longest running scripted drama on television currently in production. As part of its 50th Anniversary celebration, SOAPnet aired a 50-hour marathon of classic episodes, starting Friday, March 29th at 10pm ET/PT and running through midnight Sunday, March 31st. Plus, on its 50th Anniversary, GH reprised the immensely popular Nurses Ball, a fictional charity event complete with musical performances from the illustrious citizens of Port Charles dedicated to HIV/AIDS awareness. This event marks the first time the Nurses Ball was linked to a non-fictional charity, amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research.

On Thursday, January 4, 2024 at 10pm ET/PT, ABC premiered "60 Years of Stars and Storytelling," a one-hour GENERAL HOSPITAL special, featuring GH cast members Maurice Benard, Jane Elliot, Genie Francis, Finola Hughes, Kelly Monaco, Laura Wright and more. These fan-favorite cast members from throughout the years pull back the curtain on six decades in Port Charles, including behind-the-scenes moments, bloopers, a special fan tribute and more exciting surprises honoring GENERAL HOSPITAL's legacy. Joining the GH cast members are celebrity guests, including Val Chmerkovskiy, Emma Samms, Stephen A. Smith, Rick Springfield, and Amber Tamblyn, and many more.
