Plot Synopsis

Created by Abe Sylvia and directed by John Hillcoat, GEORGE & TAMMY is a six-episode drama series that chronicles the life of musical power couple Tammy Wynette and George Jones, whose complicated-but-enduring relationship inspired some of the most iconic music of all time. Remembered as the "First Lady of Country Music," Wynette's most successful song "Stand by Your Man" remains one of the most iconic and best-selling country singles by a female artist. George Jones' song "He Stopped Loving Her Today," is still widely called the greatest country song of all time. With over 30 number-one country songs between them, including duets "We're Gonna Hold On," "Golden Ring" and "Near You," George and Tammy's legacy, both musically and romantically, remains one of the greatest love stories ever told. GEORGE & TAMMY premiered on Sunday, December 4, 2022 at 9pm ET/PT on Showtime, with a simulcast on Showtime and CMT. Episodes include:

"The Race Is On" (Sunday, December 4, 2022): Up and coming singer Tammy Wynette gets a big break when she's asked to open for her idol, country legend George Jones. The two have an immediate romantic connection and undeniable musical chemistry, but their would-be pairing faces a major obstacle: Tammy's husband Don Chapel.

"Stand by Your Man" (Sunday, December 11, 2022): Running away together turns out to be more difficult than George and Tammy imagined, with Tammy's past threatening to derail their hopes for marriage, and with George's past standing in the way of their future as a recording duo.

"We're Gonna Hold On" (Sunday, December 18, 2022): The President and First Lady of Country Music are on top of the world: hit after hit, award after award, and a new baby to boot. However, when a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity presents itself in Las Vegas, Tammy is forced to question whether George can handle the pressures of superstardom.

"The Grand Tour" (Sunday, December 25, 2022): The only Christmas present Tammy wants is George's sobriety. When he cannot deliver, their relationship hits a crisis point, forcing Tammy to make a drastic threat. When George calls her bluff, however, the two legends find themselves singing much sadder songs.

"Two Story House" (Sunday, January 1, 2023): Post-divorce, Tammy finds herself at the top of the charts, while George finds himself at the bottom of a glass. By pouring his sorrow into song, however, George finds career resurrection, just in time for Tammy to orchestrate a reunion tour...and make a major decision that will change her life, as well as everybody else's.

"Justified & Ancient" (Sunday, January 8, 2023): After over a decade apart, a devastating event reunites the former President and First Lady of Country Music for one final tour. Will country music's greatest power couple find clarity and grace before they face their final curtain?
