Plot Synopsis
Created and executive produced by Marlon James, GET MILLIE BLACK is a one-hour drama series that follows ex-Scotland Yard detective Millie-Jean Black, who returns to Kingston, Jamaica, to work missing persons cases. She soon finds herself on a quest to save a sibling who won't be saved, to find a child who can't be found, and to solve a case that will blow her world apart. The five-episode noir crime thriller and manhunt is told through the eyes of five people -- all of whom believe they know the true Millie Black, who is the deepest mystery of all. Episodes include:
"Millie" (Monday, November 25, 2024 at 9pm): Back in Jamaica after decades in the U.K., detective Millie Black is assigned a case that points to a prominent Kingston family.
"Hibiscus" (Monday, December 2, 2024 at 9pm): With Curtis in the hospital and Hibiscus recovering from the attack on the Gully, Millie throws herself into her work. Initially suspicious of U.K. Detective Luke Holborn, Millie is compelled to team up with him when Janet's case leads to a disturbing discovery.
"Holborn" (Monday, December 9, 2024 at 9pm): Millie reluctantly agrees to work with Holborn in the short term. Meanwhile, Hibiscus and Millie find a new balance in their relationship, and Curtis contemplates a change. Then, when Millie and Holborn make a breakthrough, Millie finds herself on a dangerous path.
"Janet" (Monday, December 16, 2024 at 9pm): Millie goes rogue to get to the bottom of the Somervilles' criminal enterprise before Holborn can interfere. When Janet makes an unexpected decision, Millie must take extreme measures to protect the ones she loves and to find Romeo before it's too late.
"Curtis" (Monday, December 23, 2024 at 9pm): In Kingston, Curtis faces the consequences of Millie's actions and must decide what matters most. An undercover Millie arrives back in London. With few friends and scant resources, she must find and save Romeo before the mysterious "Lindo" can stop her.
James said of his new series: "Putting my home country center stage, it was crucial to have world-class Jamaican talent both in front and behind the camera, while also offering an unflinching perspective on our vibrant queer community. Across the first season, a single case will lead our heroine on a roller coaster ride into the center of an international human trafficking ring. It's about the long legacy of slavery, and colonialism, but also childhood trauma, cycles of abuse, and what happens when the demons of your past gang up to make a last stand against you. What really drives the story, what leads us to its explosive end, is Millie herself. Her background, her trauma, her upbringing, her mother, her sister, her life as a black woman in the UK, as a cop at Scotland Yard, and detective in Jamaica, as a person dealing with self-destructive impulses that bleed into her life and work as she and her country come to grips with a past that's never really past."
