Plot Synopsis

Created by Brie Larson and Culture House, GROWING UP is a half-hour docuseries that explores the challenges, triumphs, and complexities of adolescence through ten coming-of-age stories. The series uses narrative, experimental, and documentary filmmaking to follow one casted individual, ages 18-22, as they tell their story. They represent a wide range of lived experiences, giving audiences a look at teenage-hood and the diverse social, familial, and internal obstacles young people face on their path to self-discovery and acceptance. Each 30-minute episode features one young person and their experience growing up. Each episode features an interview that allows the young adult to walk us through their childhood and teenage years. Alongside these interviews, cinematic re-enactments help bring their major inflection points to life. The young adults featured in the 10 episodes are: Alex Crotty; Clare Della Valle & Isabel Lam; Amiri Nash; Athena Nair; Sofia Ongele; Emily Flores; Sage Dolan-Sandrino; Gavin Arneson; Vanessa Aryee; and David Puma. Each installment is helmed by a different director, including: Nicole Galovski & Kishori Rajan; Brie Larson; Elegance Bratton; Smriti Mundhra; Yara Shahidi; Ashley Eakin; Sydney Freeland; Bernardo Ruiz; Ekwa Msangi; and Rudy Valdez. All 10 episodes of GROWING UP dropped on Disney+ Day 2022 (Thursday, September 8, 2022).
