Plot Synopsis

HACKING THE WILD is a one-hour reality series that follows digital survivalist Andy Quitmeyer, as he goes deep into some of the most remote parts of the world armed with nothing but everyday technology and science to survive the wilderness. In each 60-minute episode, Quitmeyer hacks his way back to civilization using a hybrid of time-tested outdoor survival skills and a backpack's worth of wires, laptops and tracking devices. From a remote Pacific Island to backcountry of Alaska, Quitmeyer's adventures land him in some of the most treacherous regions on the planet, where he must adapt to each situation on the fly with his unique and innovative problem-solving skills. Using only the materials he has, including a coconut shell, an eyeglass holder and a stainless steel coffee mug -- along with his knowledge of nature, he hacks repelling devices, traps, alarms and a heating system. He is also tasked with finding and cooking his food, and carefully navigating his way to stay alive until he can make his way back to civilization. In the season opener, "The Black Bayou," Andy braves the Louisiana swamp, a deadly place packed with alligators, snacks, and dangerous predators. Andy rigs his bag of tech to create fresh water, gather food, and escape back to civilization. Then, in the second episode, "Curse of the Jungle," Andy tries to survive a remote tropical jungle, one of the most rain-soaked and challenging places on earth. Making his electronic equipment work in this environment will push his hacking skills to the limit, but he'll have to do it to make it back home.

On Wednesday, March 21, 2017 at 10pm ET/PT, Science Channel premiered the season finale of HACKING THE WILD. In the season ender, "Escape from Death Valley," California's Death Valley is one of the toughest places to survive on the planet. Andy heads into this desolate landscape hoping his tech will keep him alive in place where few things can survive.
