Plot Synopsis

Based on Grant Morrison and Darick Robertson's graphic novel of the same name, HAPPY! is a one-hour series that follows Nick Sax -- an intoxicated, corrupt ex-cop turned hit man -- who is adrift in a world of casual murder, soulless sex and betrayal. Once a rock star detective for a major metropolitan police force, Sax lost it all. Now he's a broken, down-and-out hired killer that makes just enough money to support a steady diet of booze, drugs and sarcasm by carrying out hits for the mob. After a hit gone wrong, his inebriated life is forever changed by a tiny, relentlessly positive, imaginary blue unicorn named Happy. Together, Happy and Sax make the oddest of oddball buddy double acts. The series opens with Sax and Happy partnering to rescue missing 8-year-old Hailey, who has been kidnapped. Hailey's single mother, Amanda, will stop at nothing to bring her daughter home, but in order to save her, Amanda must confront demons of her own. Helping Amanda is Merry, a tough homicide detective in a man's world. She's a good cop who's had to swallow her pride and give up her ideals to save her job and protect her elderly mother. Will the secrets of her past bring damnation -- or redemption? The diabolical villain in the story is Mr. Blue, a man whose wealth and status as a legitimate businessman in the wine import trade support an increasingly profitable and highly illegal sideline. Mr. Blue's henchmen include Smoothie, whose depravity is matched only by his bizarre interrogation techniques.
