Plot Synopsis

THE HEART GUY is a one-hour drama series that centers on Hugh Knight, a rising star in the Sydney heart-surgery ranks. Hugh is gifted, charming, and seemingly infallible, but after an incident involving drugs and alcohol, he's forced to practice as a GP in his rural hometown of Whyhope -- and to deal with his complicated family situation. Upon returning, he reconnects with his brother, Matt, who is now married to his ex-girlfriend, Charlie.

Season 4 of THE HEART GUY had its U.S. premiere on Monday, December 9, 2019 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, as Acorn TV released the entire 10-episode season. In the season opener, "Hugh Am I?," as Hugh's daughter, Eliza, turns one and his cardiac clinic is about to be upgraded by a wealthy sponsor, Hugh is distracted by the arrival of Tara, a beautiful doctor with her own dubious past. Charlie suddenly returns to Whyhope, making things awkward between Matt and April.

The entire eight-episode fifth and final season of THE HEART GUY made its U.S. debut on Monday, July 26, 2021 on Acorn TV. This season, Hugh Knight's days as a high-flying Sydney heart surgeon are well behind him, as we find him truly settled into his bad-boy local doctor role in sleepy Whyhope. Adapting to small-town life hasn't always been easy for Hugh, but he's shaken off his playboy ways -- mostly -- and learned some important life lessons along the way. This season we find Whyhope in crisis, with the local mining industry on its knees and the hospital temporarily closed down after asbestos was discovered. With everyone looking to Hugh to save the day, even he wonders if he can step up and fight for his hometown.
