Plot Synopsis
In this animated Easter special, Seymour S. Sassafrass, a peddler dealing in magic and pretty colors, visits April Valley and tells the story of young Peter Cottontail who dreams of becoming the Chief Easter Bunny. April Valley is where all the Easter Bunnies live and work, coloring eggs, chiseling chocolate sculptures, and sewing beautiful bonnets. When Colonel Wellington B. Bunny steps down as Chief Easter Bunny, he passes his responsibilities and job title to Peter, but January Q. Irontail, a reclusive rabbit with a prosthetic iron tail, challenges the transfer of power, because he wants to ruin the holiday for children as payback for a child running over his tail. Irontail reminds them that the April Valley constitution states the rabbit who delivers the most eggs should be made Chief Easter Bunny, and suggests he and Peter compete to be the successor. Peter, overconfident that he'll be victorious, stays out too late on Easter Eve and sleeps through the morning after his rooster alarm clock was sabotaged by Irontail. While Peter sleeps, Irontail delivers just one egg, beating Peter and laying claim to the crown. Ashamed by his antics and performance, Peter leaves April Valley, while Irontail begins to ruin Easter by passing outrageous laws. When Peter is wandering, he meets Seymour, who offers his time machine so Peter can go back and win the contest, but Irontail learns of the plan and attempts to stop him. During his quest to save the holiday, Peter visits new lands, celebrates other holidays and finds any way possible to give away his eggs -- and defeat the bunny who's destroying Easter.
