Plot Synopsis

HEROES OF HELL'S HIGHWAY is a reality series that follows the Second and Third Platoons of the US Army 23rd Engineer Company (aka 23rd Sappers), as they protect personnel in Afghanistan by clearing minefields, safely detonating improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and disarming bombs. In each one-hour episode, the platoons execute one major mission, including: blowing up a bomb found on a major supply route; using their massive vehicles to draw enemy fire; clearing a landing zone where two British helicopters need to unload a 60-man assault force under the cover of darkness; rolling out to blow up a bomb at the gate of the 23rd Sapper Route Clearance Company's Forward Operating Base, which turns out to be a trap; and searching for IEDs on a supply route while being attacked by a motorcycle gang. The 23rd Sappers previously appeared in a one-hour special, BOMB HUNTERS: AFGHANISTAN, which aired on October 3, 2011 on Nat Geo. More than one year later, Discovery aired three, back-to-back episodes of this series on Saturday, December 29, 2012 from 8-11pm ET.
