Plot Synopsis

Based on the short-form web series created by husband-and-wife team Ben Sinclair and Katja Blichfed, HIGH MAINTENANCE is a half-hour comedy series that explores the private lives of eccentric New Yorkers through a common thread: their weed deliveryman. Sinclair stars as The Guy, whose client base includes a group of characters with neuroses as diverse as the city. Each episode features multiple stories exploring the inner workings of people from all walks of life, told fly-on-the-wall style, revealing a city full of strangers united by the perennial pursuit of life's greatest highs. In the series premiere, "Meth(od)," The Guy makes an uncomfortable delivery to a macho client and his taciturn friend. Best friends Max (guest star Max Jenkins) and Lainey's (guest star Helene Yorke) codependent relationship begins to wane after Max accidentally stumbles upon a new group of friends. In order to stay part of this group, Max must maintain a charade, while keeping Lainey's suspicions at bay. Other guest stars in Season 1 include Lee Tergesen, Amy Ryan, Ryan Woodle, Yael Stone, Kristen Hung, Clem Cheung, Stephen Lin, Peter Friedman, Bridgit Moloney, Paul Thureen, Ismenia Mendes, Greta Lee, Michael Cyril Creighton, Rebecca Naomi Jones, and more. On 4/20, HBO announced that it ordered six episodes of HIGH MAINTENANCE for its linear premiere later in 2016, with the entire first season written and directed by Blichfeld and Sinclair.

The sophomore season of HIGH MAINTENANCE premiered on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 11pm ET/PT on HBO, as Ben Sinclair returned as The Guy, a bearded, pot-dealing deliveryman whose growing clientele is keeping him busier than ever. In the season opener, "Globo," the Guy has a busier-than-usual day as New Yorkers react to world-changing news. The morning after a hookup, carefree hotel guests spend an indulgent day, unaware of what's going on outside their door. With the world around him in disarray, a client's roommate (Joshua Schubart) struggles to maintain his commitment to losing weight. New guest stars this season include Danielle Brooks, John Gallagher Jr., Jessica Hecht, Luzer Twersky and Kate Lyn Sheil, with Abdullah Saeed and Yael Stone returning.

Season 3 of HIGH MAINTENANCE premiered on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at 10:30pm ET/PT on HBO. This season profiles everyday people whose stories of success, failure, love and loss intersect across New York, while delving deeper into personal life of The Guy, who is spending less time on his iconic bicycle and more time in "Steve RV," a set of wheels gifted to him last season. Featuring an intricate web of memorable returning characters and unforgettable new faces, the new episodes find New Yorkers exploring their relationship with the city, touching on such themes as death, parenthood, sexuality, fantasy, aging and more. In the season opener, "M.A.S.H." (written and directed by series creator Katja Blichfeld), The Guy gets upsetting news while spending time away from the city in his RV, but makes an intriguing new connection. Cori (guest star Erin Markey), meanwhile, tries to adjust to a new reality without her friend. Returning guest stars for Season 3 include: Amy Ryan, Gary Richardson, Arthur Meyer, Jen Harris, Micah Sherman and Abdullah Saeed. New guest stars the third season include: Jemima Kirke, Margaret Cho, Guillermo Diaz, Rosie Perez, Kathleen Chalfant, Ken Leung and Annie Golden.

The nine-episode fourth season of HIGH MAINTENANCE premiered on Friday, February 7, 2020 at 11pm ET/PT on HBO. This season finds The Guy back traversing the city on his bicycle, having said goodbye to last season's RV. With a new friend by his side, The Guy drops in on a variety of customers whose disparate lives, jobs, identities and circumstances reveal the human connection that we all seek. Playing out over the course of a year, this season focuses on cycles of renewal, webs of human connections, and putting down roots in the ever-changing ecosystem of New York City. Returning guest stars this season include Crystal Monee Hall, Helene Yorke, Ken Leung, Julianna Luna Vasquez, Avery Monsen, Rob Morgan, Max Jenkins, Chris Roberti, Becca Blackwell, Chris McKinney and Birgit Huppuch. New guest stars include Ira Glass and his team at This American Life, Nick Kroll, Rebecca Hall, Larry Owens and Calvin Leon Smith.

In the season ender, "Soup," a snowstorm hits on Christmas Eve, and Pam-Anne (Heather Alicia Simms) joins her sister Destiny (Mayaa Boateng) and a motley crew of flight attendants at their usual crash pad in Queens. Delayed on his way home to spend the holidays with his family, The Guy celebrates Hanukah in New York. Written by Katja Blichfeld & Isaac Oliver; directed by Katja Blichfeld.
