Plot Synopsis

Since the program was established in 1987 by the White House to commemorate the creation of Hispanic Heritage Month in the United States, THE HISPANIC HERITAGE AWARDS -- considered among the highest honors for Latinos by Latinos -- have annually honored Latino leaders in education, sports, leadership, STEM, entertainment, service, and philanthropy.

On Friday, September 29, 2023 at 9pm (check local listings), PBS broadcast the 36th annual HISPANIC HERITAGE AWARDS as a one-hour special, hosted by Leslie Grace. This year's honorees include: Grammy/Latin Grammy winners Cafe Tacvba (Arts Award); Chairman of the NBCUniversal News Group, Cesar Conde (Media Award); Grammy Award nominee Omar Apollo (Inspira Award); the fastest-growing Mexican-American food brand, Siete Family Foods (Entrepreneurship Award); and Urban Latin music icon Wisin (Vision Award). In addition to hosting, Leslie Grace performs with additional musical performances by by honorees Omar Apollo and Cafe Tacvba, a special return performance by Alejandra Guzman, and a special centennial tribute to the legendary Tito Puente featuring Tito Puente, Jr., Milly Quezada, Alec Cuba and Pedrito Martinez. The event also features special appearances by John Leguizamo, Michael Cimino, Francia Raisa, Annie Gonzalez, Constance Marie, Xolo Mariduena, Pati Jinich, Nicholas Gonzalez, Richard "Crazy Legs" Colon, and Angel Manuel Soto.
